A color 3D printed cockpit interior for the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor in 1:48 scale from Quinta Studio. This is not an airplane model on its own but a detail accessory (an aftermarket set) intended to improve the cockpit of the injection-molded F-22 Raptor kit from Hasegawa. The parts are printed and pre-printed in color on decal paper, so they combine three-dimensional relief with a finished color scheme and legible instruments.
The set replaces or markedly enriches the original cockpit equipment of the base kit: the instrument panel, the side consoles, the seat and other cockpit details. The instrument dials are covered by a glossy clear layer that imitates glass and gives the cockpit a realistic look with no need for laborious painting. Without the base F-22 Raptor kit from Hasegawa the accessory cannot be built on its own.
The individual elements are applied much like decals: soak the piece briefly in lukewarm water, slide it off the backing and settle it in place in the cockpit; do not use a decal softener or a setting solution, as they attack the printed resin. Degrease the surface under the piece, and painting it a dark base beforehand is recommended. Because the interior is already in color, there is no need to spray it; a light refinement of the shadows and a dry brush on the edges are enough. Work in a clean space with plenty of light, so that the small parts seat properly.
