This variant of the masking set is adapted to a particular kit from the brand Meng, and that is precisely where it differs from otherwise similar-sounding sets. The outlines of the frames and the small areas are derived from a particular mold, so a film from one maker will not seat exactly on the part of another. Choosing the right variant is therefore more important at purchase than anything else.
The A version is the land-based rendition of the Lightning II with a standard takeoff and landing, that is the most widespread of the whole family. It differs from the carrier version and from the short-takeoff one in the shape of the wing, the arrangement of the rear end and the absence of the lift fan behind the cockpit. The surface of the machine is treated so as to reduce its signature, which outwardly shows up as a subtle difference of shades between the individual areas. It is this very feature that makes masking a key skill on this type.
First finish the gloss coat the films will bed down on and let it cure properly. Lay the mask from the center toward the edges, so that no bubbles form. Once uncovered, check the edges against the light and repair any seepage with a fine brush before you unify the whole surface with a clear coat.
