Decals for the Fairey Gannet in 1:48 scale

A sheet of decals intended for finishing a model of the British carrier-based Fairey Gannet. These are decals for aircraft models, that is, a separate accessory to a kit already built or under construction, not a model.

The real subject

The Gannet was a carrier-based aircraft for anti-submarine work that differed from other machines of its day in its power: a pair of turboprop engines coupled into a single unit, which drove coaxial propellers turning against each other. On patrol one half of the power plant could be shut down, and the aircraft stayed in the air considerably longer on the other. The wing folded twice over for stowage on deck, so a folded machine had its characteristic cranked silhouette. The crew sat one behind the other under an elongated canopy, and the fuselage carried a roomy bomb bay beneath it.

How to apply the decals

• Give the area under the decal a gloss coat; on a matte surface air is caught under the film.
• Cut the decal out with a small margin, soak it in lukewarm water and let it rest until it releases from the paper.
• On engraving and curves use a softener so that the film beds down without creases.
• Once dry, wipe the adhesive residue away carefully with a damp cloth, or a glossy shadow will stay along the edge.
• Seal the finished markings with a varnish of the required sheen.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who are building the Gannet in 1:48 scale and want markings other than those the box offers, or who need to replace the decals. The work is ordinary decal work and a less experienced builder will manage it.

The package holds the decal sheet. The model, the paints, the varnish and the softener are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
