Fw 190A - seat and side back armor, the version with harness (1:48, CMK)

A resin detail accessory, not an airplane model. The set contains the pilot seat of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A complemented by a cast seat harness and the side armor plates that protected the pilot's back. It replaces the corresponding plastic cockpit parts in the Fw 190A kits in 1:48 scale by the Czech maker Eduard. The set is made by CMK, a Czech specialist in resin sets. It is precisely the cast belts that distinguish this version from the sister variant without a harness: you do not have to buy the belts separately.

Use and fitting

• Check that your base Fw 190A kit is the Eduard one in 1:48 scale; the set is shaped precisely for it.
• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on the surface.
• Cut the casting blocks and supports off with a sharp scalpel or a saw; do not break the thin armor plates.
• Sand the cut surface flat, always with respiratory protection, ideally wet.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate); cement for plastic does not hold on resin.
• Try the seat and the armor dry before closing the fuselage; resin replacements often need the cockpit frame adjusted slightly.

Painting tips

Spray the parts with primer and only then with paint. The interior of the Fw 190A is normally painted in the dark gray cockpit shade; pick the cast harness out in a lighter canvas tone and bring out the buckles and fittings with a metallic shade. A wash in the panel grooves and a light dry brushing of the edges will bring out the structure of the armor plates. Finish the cockpit before joining the fuselage halves; you will not reach it later.

Who the set is for

For modelers who are building the Fw 190A in 1:48 scale by Eduard and want to lift the cockpit above the level of plastic. Choose this version if you want the seat belts already done in the casting and do not want to deal with separate photo-etched parts. Working with resin assumes at least basic experience.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. Use a respirator and ventilate when sanding resin.
