Two GBU-15(V)21, 22/B glide bombs in the Small Wing rendition together with an AN/AXQ-14 data link pod, 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The contents are two bombs of the rendition with the smaller lifting surface and one data link pod. The resin castings have sharper edges on the control surfaces than can be made on injection-molded parts. The fit matches what a machine actually carried on a single sortie.
The GBU-15 is a modular weapon. A guidance head is attached to the front of the bomb body and a wing block to the rear, so a whole range of versions arises out of a few building elements. It has no power of its own and glides to the target thanks to the altitude and speed of the carrier. Accuracy is a matter for a human being: the operator watches the picture from the head and steers the weapon right to the chosen spot. Over Iraq in 1991 this method succeeded in hitting, among other things, the oil terminals from which oil was escaping into the sea. The weapon was carried mainly by larger twin-engine machines, because a bomb together with a pod takes up two pylons and no small part of the payload.
Live ordnance carries a yellow ring at the charge, while training rounds are marked blue in American practice. Spray the colored bands over narrow strips of masking tape stuck onto a dried base shade. Drawing them with a brush tends to show at this scale. Finally unify the surface with a matte clear coat. A rewarding detail is the fine rub marks around the suspension lugs, where the ordnance touched the handling equipment.
In the package you will find the ordnance and the pod; nothing else belongs with it.
