A 1:48 sheet of national insignia for German aircraft. It covers the period from the mid 1930s to the end of the Second World War; the sheet measures 180 by 130 millimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
The German Balkenkreuz was not a static symbol. From its introduction in the mid 1930s it went through a series of changes in the proportion of its arms, in the width of the white and black border and in overall size relative to the fuselage and the wing. The late war years then brought simplified forms in which only outline lines were left, because a full fill would have been too conspicuous on a camouflaged machine.
The manufacturer's data defines the coverage as the whole period from 1936 to the end of the war and gives the printed area as 180 by 130 millimeters. For a decal sheet that is an above average area and it matches a set meant to serve as a universal stock of insignia rather than as an accessory to a single machine. Insignia in various sizes suit small fighters as well as the surfaces of multi engine bombers.
It is bought mainly in two situations. Either you are building a machine from older tooling whose original decals have yellowed and the carrier film is cracking, or you are assembling your own combination of markings from a photograph of the period and need insignia of exactly the type you see in the picture. In both cases it is good to know what form of the marking was usual in a given year and on a given type.
Universal sheets of this kind tend to have a long life in a modeler's stock, because pieces are taken from them one at a time as the need arises.
The set contains national insignia only. The codes of individual machines and personal emblems do not belong to it.
