A set of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for a model of the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat carrier fighter, part number 48019. The sheet carries markings of machines of the US Navy; among them the documented one is the machine with the white number 25 of squadron VF-19 from the carrier USS Lexington in 1944, in the three-tone camouflage scheme. The maker is the Polish brand Techmod. This is not a kit and not a finished model.
The F6F-5 was the most numerous version of the Hellcat and was told apart from the earlier F6F-3 by the more cleanly shaped engine cowling and the absence of the windows behind the cockpit. Bombs and unguided rockets could be hung under its wings and fuselage, so besides air fighting it could handle attacks on ground and shipping targets. Machines from the first half of 1944 still carried the three-tone blue-gray camouflage, later ones the uniform glossy dark blue finish. The Hellcat became the most successful carrier fighter of the Pacific.
A decal holds best on a smooth, glossy clear coated surface; on a matte or roughened base a visible edge stays around the design. Trim each design as close as you can, leave it 20 to 30 seconds in lukewarm water and then slide it off the paper onto a spot wetted with water. Press the air and the excess water out from the center toward the edges. On doubly curved surfaces and over engraved lines a decal setting solution helps. Spray the finished markings over with a protective coat in the same sheen as the rest of the model.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The basic kit, paints and clear coat are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
