Four Mark 82 bombs in the basic form with a low-drag tail cone, in 1:48 scale. The set is an accessory for building an aircraft model, not a kit. It replaces the stores from the box, which tend to be split into two halves, so that once glued a seam runs along the whole body of the bomb and is hard to sand without wiping out the bands and the stenciling panels. With a one-piece casting that problem falls away and the cylindrical body stays truly round.
The Mark 82 is the smallest member of the American family of aerial bombs, with a nominal weight of around five hundred pounds. The basic form with a low-drag tail is meant for release from a greater height, where the aircraft does not need the bomb retarded to get away safely. A bomb of this type is so widespread that it makes up the basic load on a large share of tactical aircraft models, and it is also the starting body for guided kits.
A cylindrical shape is the trickiest thing to sand, because a flat spot appears before you notice it. So sand wet with fine paper backed on a soft pad and keep turning the part. Water at the same time prevents the dust that is best avoided with resin. Wash the mold release agent off the part before sanding and before painting, and rinse the slurry off again after sanding. Cut away the remains of the casting block or the marks of print supports and clean them up. It is bonded with super glue; cement for plastic does not work here.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. It is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
