1:48 Mark 82 Thermally Protected bombs with BSU-86 Snakeye II fins (4 pieces) joins a thermally protected bomb body with a retarding tail. A resin accessory from Reskit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Four Mark 82 bombs in a combination of two features at once: a body with a thermally protective coating and the BSU-86 retarding tail assembly. 1:48 scale. The set is an accessory to an airplane model, not a kit. This particular combination is practically never found in the boxes with the kits, so without a resin set it can only be reached by a compromise, that is a smooth body with thicker retarding fins. Anyone building a particular documented load will appreciate that the set answers both things at once.
The thermal protection shields the filling of the bomb against a longer exposure to high temperature and turns the smooth surface of the body into a distinctly coarser one. The retarding tail, by contrast, affects the path after release: it increases the drag and makes a release from low altitude possible. Both modifications have to do with the environment where the ordnance is stored and from which it is deployed, and on a model they are two independently recognizable features.
With this set it pays to try everything dry first. Assemble the bomb together with the tail, hold it against the rack and check that the axis of the body is parallel with the axis of the fuselage and that the retarding fins do not touch the neighboring store. Only then glue with cyanoacrylate glue, which leaves no time for a correction. Before that, wash the mold release agent off the parts and clean up the remains of the casting block or the print supports wet, in places where the texture of the thermal coating is not. Small excesses of glue can be knocked off with a scraper made from a knife blade.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. It is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
