A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. It is not an airplane kit but an accessory representing the protective covers against foreign object damage (F.O.D.) that are fitted to an aircraft standing on the ground. It is intended for models of the MiG-27 ground-attack aircraft.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-27 was a Soviet single-seat ground-attack and strike aircraft derived from the MiG-23 family. It served for attacks on ground targets and carried powerful gun as well as bomb armament. On the ground, covers for the air intakes and the nozzles are routinely fitted to jet aircraft to protect the engine from dirt.
The set makes it possible to render an aircraft faithfully in its on-the-ground state with the covers fitted. The parts are separated with a sharp knife, folded on an edge and bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The covers are often painted in a striking color (red, for instance) and completed with streamers, so that they are clearly visible on the model.
The accessory is supplied as a standalone photo-etched set. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
