Specifically, this set combines masking templates for the Mitsubishi F-2A in 1:48 scale with landing gear bay plugs, both made specifically for the kit from Hasegawa. Let's be clear about this right from the start: this is not a model or a kit. You are buying only painting accessories — you must have the F-2A kit itself, or purchase it separately.
The masks are die-cut precisely to the shapes of the kit's parts, so there is no need for the laborious cutting of tape with a knife directly on the model. The plugs fill the landing gear bays during spraying — this keeps paint from reaching the already painted interior of the bay.
The Mitsubishi F-2 is a Japanese multi-role combat aircraft developed in cooperation with the American side and based on the design of the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It differs from its model chiefly in its larger wing area made of composite materials, a longer fuselage and a modified canopy. The single-seat F-2A variant serves the Japan Air Self-Defense Force mainly in the anti-ship and strike role and is well known for its striking blue camouflage scheme.
Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers, place them on the part and carefully press down the edges — it is exactly the edge's adhesion that decides whether paint bleeds under it. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats, not one heavy one. Insert the plugs into the bays only after painting their interior, and leave them there for the entire time you spray the top-coat shades. Remove the masks while the paint is freshly dry to the touch; pull them off slowly and at an angle.
