A plastic kit of the Japanese float reconnaissance biplane Mitsubishi F1M2 Pete (Type 0 Observation Seaplane, Model 11) in 1:48 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. This version brings decals for the aircraft carried by the battleship Yamato. The package holds injection-molded plastic, clear parts and decals. An injection-molded plastic model to glue and paint.
The F1M was an agile observation biplane of the Imperial Japanese Navy on a central float. It took off from the catapults of battleships and cruisers and served for observation and artillery spotting, reconnaissance, patrol work and the rescue of downed airmen. Despite its apparent obsolescence it was nimble and was used throughout the war in the Pacific. The Allies assigned it the code name Pete. The large central float, the auxiliary floats under the wings and the tall vertical tail make it a rewarding and photogenic subject.
On a float biplane, take care to seat the float and the struts squarely and to get the bracing wires between the wings right - string the wires only after painting. Mask the glazing, the cockpit is on view. Bring the typical dark green upper surfaces and light undersides to life with an airbrush and add a hint of service wear. Assemble the struts between the fuselage and the float exactly to the plan - the whole stability and symmetry of the model rests on them. Bring out the panel lines with a wash and unify the finish at the end with a flat varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
