The model captures this characteristic machine with its bubble cockpit glazing, three rudders and the option of carrying a reconnaissance radar pod (SLAR) under the fuselage. The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was an American twin-engine turboprop aircraft intended for observation, reconnaissance and light strike, created at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. It stood out for the excellent view from its glazed cockpit, a rugged structure for operating from unprepared strips and the ability to carry various sensors. The OV-1D version was the versatile reconnaissance variant, which could be changed over fairly quickly between photographic and radar reconnaissance modes; it carried a side-looking airborne radar (SLAR) in an underfuselage pod. The Mohawk served mainly with the ground forces, was deployed in Vietnam and in later conflicts, and other air arms used it as well.
The extensive cockpit glazing is the eye-catching feature - paint the cockpit in detail before closing it up and mask the frames carefully so that it stays clear. Watch the balance: the slim nose usually needs weight, otherwise the model will sit down on its tail; glue the weight in before you assemble the fuselage. Fit the underfuselage radar pod and any external stores at the end. Apply the green or dark camouflage with an airbrush, shade the panels gently and pick the joints out with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
