This is a detail accessory, not an airplane model. The set from the Czech maker Eduard concentrates on the retractable wingtip floats of the amphibious PBY-5A Catalina flying boat in 1:48 scale. The three-dimensional 3D execution brings fine detail to the floats as well as their struts and mechanism, of a kind that injection-molded plastic offers with difficulty. The set is intended for Eduard and Revell kits.
The Consolidated PBY Catalina was an American long-range maritime patrol and rescue flying boat. The wingtip floats gave it clean airflow in the air and lateral stability when landing on water; on the real aircraft they folded upward after takeoff from the water and formed the ends of the wings.
Carefully separate the parts from the print supports, clean them up and bond with cyanoacrylate glue. Depending on the scene you choose, the floats can be rendered in the lowered position for riding on the water or folded up for the flight configuration.
The set is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
