PBY-5A Catalina: masks for the national insignia with a red center (1:48): self-adhesive Eduard stencils for spraying the early type of the American insignia. For Eduard and Revell kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit but a set of self-adhesive masks for spraying the early American national insignia on a model of the PBY-5A Catalina flying boat in 1:48 scale. They are made by Eduard, the Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most, and the set is intended for Catalina kits from both Eduard and Revell.
An insignia sprayed through a mask looks like part of the paint: no translucent film, no silvering and nothing that lifts in time. On large areas, such as the insignia on the fuselage and the wings, it is a cleaner and more durable solution than a decal.
This set represents the early type of insignia used up to 1942: a blue disc with a white star that had a red center (a red disc in the middle of the star). In the Pacific that proved a problem, as it was confused with the Japanese red disc (hinomaru) on the wings and fuselages of Japanese aircraft. The US armed forces therefore dropped the red center in 1942. It is thus the historically accurate choice for machines from the start of the war; for the later period (from the middle of 1943) there is a separate Stars & Bars set with side bars, so pick according to the period you are building.
The set contains masks only. Paints (blue, white, red), the kit and glue are not included in the package.
