This set from Quinta Studio is not a kit but an accessory for surface detail. It contains rivet patterns in the form of 3D decals - elements that have real height and, once stuck onto a model, create raised, tangible rivet relief. They are laid out in rectangles, rounded rectangles and ovals, that is the shapes that outline service panels and access covers on real machines. The size of a single rivet is 0.15 mm and the spacing is 0.6 mm, which matches 1:48 scale. The color of the elements is black.

The idea: a 3D decal instead of scribing and dotting

Conventional riveting means either recessed detail (scribing with a riveting wheel, which leaves dimples) or laborious dotting of raised rivets one at a time. Both are slow and a mistake is hard to fix. A 3D decal turns the problem around: the rivets are finished, in the right size, spacing and shape, and you simply transfer them onto the model by the wet method like an ordinary decal. What you get is a raised rivet - the kind most real riveted-sheet structures have. The pre-drawn rectangles and ovals also solve the hardest part of the job: the outline of the panel is straight and the corners are clean.

Use

• Spray the surface with a base color and clear-coat it to a gloss - 3D decals hold best on a smooth surface.
• Cut the pattern out, soak it in water and transfer it into place; while it is still damp, adjust the position.
• Press it down with a cotton swab, blot the excess water away and let it dry thoroughly.
• Use softeners sparingly and test them beforehand - aggressive products can flatten the relief.
• Clear-coat the finished surface and bring it out with a wash; the black color of the elements serves as a base for shading.

Who the set is for

For modelers in 1:48 scale who want to bring out riveting and panel outlines on aircraft and vehicles but do not want to spend hours scribing by hand. It also suits repairing a surface after sanding and filling, where the original detail has been lost.

An accessory for modelers; it is not a toy. It contains very small parts - keep it out of the reach of small children. A model, paints and glues are not included in the package.
