An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz.251/1 half-track armored personnel carrier in the Ausf.D version in 1:48 scale from the Military Miniature series by Tamiya. The vehicle is popularly called the Hanomag after the maker of its chassis. The model captures the production-simplified D version with its characteristic rear and the sloped sides of the fighting compartment. The underside is designed with the weight of the model in mind, and tracks and marking options are included. Check the exact contents against the instructions in the box.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was the basic German half-track carrier, which took the infantry (the Panzergrenadiers) straight into battle alongside the tank units. It combined a wheeled front axle with tracked running gear at the rear, which gave it good cross-country ability. The Ausf.D version was the most numerous and the most simplified for mass wartime production. The /1 form was the basic transport variant for an infantry squad.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the interior of the fighting compartment before you close the body up, because in an open carrier the inside is clearly visible. Glue the parts with a thin plastic cement. Apply a primer and the colors with an airbrush, and put the decals on over a gloss clear coat. Bring out the interior and the equipment with a wash and finish the surface with mud and dust effects in pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
