Eight metal barrels for the P-47 Thunderbolt, 1:48

A set of eight turned metal half-inch machine gun barrels for a model of the American P-47 fighter, in 1:48 scale. It is not a model but a set of replacement parts. The eight barrels projecting from the wing leading edge were among the recognition features of this machine, and because they stand out into the air, they are visible on a model from the front and from the side.

What it is for

• Replacing the plastic barrels of the wing armament on a P-47 model.
• Genuinely drilled muzzles instead of solid plastic tips.
• An accurate cylindrical section with no parting line.
• Repairing a model with a broken or warped barrel.

Building and painting tips

Drill the openings in the leading edge to the diameter of the shanks, so that the barrels seat square and project equally far. Unequal projection shows most when the model is seen from the front, so look at the assembly before the glue sets. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the parts before painting and lay down a primer. Fit the barrels at the end of the build, when the model is no longer handled so much.
