This is a small but conspicuous detail. The air pump driven by the airflow was mounted on the outside of the fuselage on British aircraft of the First World War and kept the fuel tank under pressure. That is exactly why it is clearly visible on a model - and the plastic part from a kit tends to be simplified, with its little propeller reduced to a coarse cross. A resin casting carries a finer shape of both the body and the blades. The set is an accessory to a plastic Sopwith Camel model in 1:48 scale; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. The Sopwith Camel was a British single-seat biplane of the First World War, characterized by the concentration of engine, armament, pilot and fuel in the forward part of the fuselage. Its rotary engine and short fuselage gave it excellent maneuverability while also making heavy demands on the pilot. Auxiliary devices such as air pumps were mounted on the outside of the structure on machines of that era, so they form a prominent part of the silhouette.
The parts are very small - work over a mat that will keep you from losing them and use tweezers. Wash the castings free of mold release agent and cut the casting block off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw. They are bonded with super glue, ideally applied on a toothpick in a minimal amount. It is more practical to paint them while they are still on the casting block: a base, then a metal shade and finally a fine wash into the recesses. Fit the part onto the model only after the fuselage has been painted and the decals applied, so that you do not catch on it.
The set is an accessory to a plastic model, not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
