Westland Wessex HU.5 – top engine cooling grille 1:48 is a resin replacement for a single part from the Quickboost line. It is not a kit of the helicopter.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory, not a model. The resin casting replaces the top cooling grille of the engine section on a model of the Westland Wessex HU.5 helicopter in 1:48 scale. The Quickboost line is built on solving one awkward part with a single crisp casting – and this is exactly such a case, because a regular louvered grille is among the shapes that are hard to make in an injection mold and tend to be shallow in plastic.
The Wessex came about as the British licensed version of an American design, which Westland re-engined with turbines. The HU.5 version served with British naval aviation as an assault and support machine with two coupled turbines. The engine section in the front of the fuselage was cooled by air drawn through grilles, so this panel is very easy to see from above on the real machine – and on a model in a display case too.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears, because paint will not hold over it. Mill or sand the original plastic panel down flat and try the new part dry several times; with inset parts it is the flatness of the seat that decides, not the amount of glue. The grille gains depth when you run a dark wash over the base shade and wipe the excess off in the direction of the louvers, and perhaps bring the edges out lightly with dry-brushing. Apply super glue with a needle around the perimeter so that it does not run between the slats.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
