About product

HMS Belfast 1:600 (Airfix)

This injection-molded plastic kit captures HMS Belfast, the British light cruiser known today as a museum ship on the Thames in London. It is a proven mold in the popular ship scale of 1:600. The package contains sheets of parts, decals and instructions; the model is built with a full hull for display on a stand.

The real subject

HMS Belfast was a light cruiser of the Royal Navy which took part in the fighting in the Atlantic during the Second World War and in the support of the landings. She played a significant role in the Battle of the North Cape, where British formations met the German surface threat. The ship has survived and serves as a floating museum, one of the most visited in London.

Building and painting tips

Spray the hull and the superstructures in Admiralty shades of gray, with period camouflage where appropriate. Set the decks apart with a darker tone and glue the small parts with thin cement for plastic. You will add the fine railings from photo-etched parts, and create the patina with a dark wash and drybrushing on the edges of the turrets and the superstructures.

Who the model is for

  • Fans of the Royal Navy and of ships of the Second World War
  • Collectors of warships in 1:600 scale
  • Modelers who admire the surviving museum ship

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
