The British battleship HMS Agincourt in an extended edition in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk. A kit complemented with above-standard equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of a ship that is an exception even among battleships. With this maker the extended edition designation means that above-standard equipment is added to the plastic parts, typically photo-etched parts and further accessories that would otherwise be bought separately. For the modeler that means the model can be taken to a higher level without hunting for additional sets.
HMS Agincourt came about as an order for a foreign navy and, when the First World War broke out, she was seized by the British government and taken into its own service. Her peculiarity was the number of gun turrets: she carried seven, that is more than any other battleship ever built. The long hull with the turrets spread over its whole length gave her a silhouette that cannot be mistaken for anything else. The drawback was her weaker armor, because the weight went into the armament.
In 1:700 scale the parts are very small, so work over a mat and dose the glue with a point. Paint the hull and the deck separately before you fit the superstructures. Seven turrets mean the same work seven times over, so think the procedure through on the first one and then repeat it. Fit the photo-etched railings only after the deck has been varnished. Keep the weathering restrained; in this scale a heavy wash tends to flood the detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
