This small plastic kit captures the American ocean-going submarine USS Gato as she was in 1944, in 1:700 scale from Hobby Boss. It is a full-hull model with a small number of parts, which holds a stand with a nameplate and a decal sheet for the markings. Thanks to the low part count it suits a quick build or an addition to a collection of submarines.
USS Gato (SS-212) gave her name to a whole extensive class of ocean-going submarines of the US Navy of the Second World War period. These boats bore the main weight of the submarine war in the Pacific; they excelled in long range, endurance and armament suited to long combat patrols. The 1944 form matches the wartime configuration with a modified conning tower and anti-aircraft armament.
According to the instructions the model can be assembled with the diving planes and the bridge extended or retracted, so you choose a surfaced or a submerged position. Set the hull into the stand supplied. An airbrush suits the uniform dark scheme of the hull, and the joints should be sanded down with a fine file after gluing. Separate the small parts with a sharp knife and glue them with liquid cement for plastic.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
