An injection-molded plastic kit of the American LTV A-7E Corsair II carrier-borne light attack aircraft in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The model has engraved panel lines, a pair of drop tanks and decals for four marking options, for the US Navy and the Hellenic Air Force alike. Check the exact package contents and the external stores against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The A-7 Corsair II came about in the first half of the nineteen sixties on a US Navy requirement for a new carrier-borne light attack aircraft, which was to replace the A-4 Skyhawk and the piston-engined A-1 Skyraider. It was derived from the design of the Vought F-8 Crusader fighter, but with a shorter fuselage and without supersonic ambitions: the emphasis was on load and accuracy of attack. The A-7E version proved itself in the Vietnam War and in later conflicts and served with the Hellenic Air Force as well.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, and fill and sand the seams on the fuselage. Paint the cockpit before closing up, and glue the glazing with canopy glue. Assemble the external stores to match the option you choose. US Navy carrier machines typically carried gray tactical camouflage; after the gloss coat and the decals, bring out the panel lines with a wash and add restrained service wear around the nozzle and on the leading edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
