A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale from the brand HäT. The package contains forty-eight figures in eight poses. The figures are supplied unpainted in the softened plastic typical of the whole range. The Germanic warriors suit as opponents for the Roman legionary and auxiliary sets from the same maker and make it possible to build fighting on the frontier of the empire.
The Germanic tribes fought in a loose formation and relied on a fierce opening rush and on the personal courage of the warrior. The main weapons were the spear and the javelin; few could afford a sword and armor was rare. Protection came from a large wooden shield with a painted clan device. The destruction of three legions in the Teutoburg Forest in AD 9 showed how dangerous this fighting culture was in wooded terrain.
Wash the figures, dry them and spray them with a flexible primer. The Germans are a rewarding set to paint: work with brown, ocher and faded green, and suggest leather and furs with a dark glaze and a dry brush. Leave the shields separate until you glue them on; a tribal pattern is easier to paint on them that way. The hair deserves lighter tones than in the ancient sets, and a knot of hair at the temple is part of the typical look.
The figures are supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
