About product

Bedford MWD General Service, closed cab, late production 1:72 (IBG models)

An injection-molded plastic model of the British light truck Bedford MWD General Service in the small 1:72 scale from the Polish brand IBG models. This variant captures the form with a closed cab of late production, which replaced the earlier open cabs with a canvas roof and a protective screen. Given the small scale it is a model with many small parts; IBG specializes in fine 1:72 kits with rich detail.

The real subject

The Bedford MW was a British light truck built from the end of the 1930s and one of the most widespread vehicles of its kind with British and Allied units during the Second World War. It was powered by a Bedford gasoline six-cylinder engine and the vehicle was valued for its reliability, simple maintenance and good mobility across country. The General Service (GS) variant with a flat-bed body served for the general transport of supplies, materials and smaller groups of soldiers. The later form received a fully closed sheet-metal cab, which offered the crew better protection than the earlier open cabs. The vehicles served on many fronts including North Africa and western Europe.

Building and painting tips

Work carefully, as in 1:72 scale the parts are small and fragile, so separate them from the sprues and clean them up with care. Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic and apply it in small amounts. Apply a primer before painting and use an airbrush or a fine brush; you bring the British military green to life with light shading, a wash brings out the details and fine pigments allow discreet mud and dust effects on the wheels and the chassis.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of British military vehicles of the Second World War in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers interested in rear-area and supply vehicles
  • Builders of small dioramas who will appreciate fine detail in a small scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the later form with a fully closed sheet-metal cab, which replaced the earlier open cabs with a canvas roof and offered the crew better protection.

In 1:72 scale the parts are small and fine, so it calls for careful work; it will be appreciated rather by more experienced modelers who like detail in a small scale.

General Service (GS) is the general-purpose flat-bed version intended for transporting supplies, materials and smaller groups of soldiers.
