It is not an aircraft model but an accessory meant to upgrade the base plastic kits of the Consolidated PBY-3/PBY-4 Catalina from Academy and Hobby 2000 in 1:72 scale. The set replaces the engine cowlings with correctly shaped resin parts with the cooling gills open - that is, the way an engine with its cooling open looks on the ground or while taxiing.
The engine nacelles and cowlings are among the features that define the silhouette of the Catalina, and in a base kit they tend to be simplified in shape. This set replaces them with more accurate cowlings with faithfully rendered cooling gills in the open position and raises the realism of the model. A matching base PBY kit from Academy or Hobby 2000 is needed for the build - the accessory does not replace it.
