An injection-molded plastic model of the American carrier biplane fighter Curtiss F11C-2 Hawk (also known as the Goshawk) in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand RS Models. It is a short-run kit with a finely engraved surface and clear parts; the box is usually completed by decals for several colorful prewar finishes of US naval squadrons. The compact biplane is a rewarding project for lovers of interwar aircraft.
The F11C-2 was a carrier fighter and light bomber biplane of the US Navy from the first half of the 1930s, powered by a Wright radial engine. Among other things it operated from the deck of an aircraft carrier and became famous for the colorful, strikingly bright markings of the prewar fleet. It was later redesignated BFC-2 and was among the last fighter biplanes of the US Navy.
On a short-run biplane it pays to dry-fit the parts and clean up the flash; the molds have no locating pins. The key point is the precise seating of the interplane struts and the upper wing — expect rigging (bracing wires), which is best made from stretched sprue or elastic thread after painting. Glue with cement for plastic and the small parts with cyanoacrylate; apply the colorful schemes with an airbrush and careful masking.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
