An injection-molded plastic model of the Dakota Mk.II in 1:72 scale from Italeri. Dakota was the British and Allied designation for the American twin-engine transport Douglas C-47 / DC-3; the Mk.II version is among the transport and paratroop forms used during the Second World War. The kit reproduces the characteristic fuselage with engraved panel lines, the glazed flight deck and the interior of the cargo hold.
The Douglas DC-3 and its military C-47 version are among the most famous transport aircraft in history. During the war hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers and tons of materiel moved thanks to these machines: they handled logistics, tactical transport, dropping paratroopers and evacuating the wounded. Power came from two Pratt & Whitney radial engines, and a reliable, rugged design kept many Dakotas in service long after the war. The Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Allied forces operated the machine under exactly that name, Dakota.
Use liquid cement for plastic and finish and fit the cockpit interior before closing the fuselage. The extensive flight deck glazing is worth masking if no mask is in the box. Dakotas carried various camouflage schemes as well as bare metal finishes; for natural metal, a smooth base and metallic shades that separate the individual panels will help. Bring out the engraved lines with a light wash, and do not forget the prominent invasion stripes if the scheme you choose includes them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
