A limited injection-molded plastic kit of the F-4EJ Kai Phantom II fighter in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The model captures a machine of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) in the commemorative black Black Phantom finish, which the 302nd Squadron received for the last year of Phantom operations before re-equipping. In the package there are clear parts for the cockpit and a decal sheet with the special commemorative markings. It is a limited release sought after by collectors.
The F-4EJ Kai was the modernized Japanese version of the legendary American McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II fighter. Japan operated Phantoms for many decades and the 302nd Squadron was among their last users before more modern machines replaced them. As a farewell, one of the aircraft was given a striking black finish with a large eagle motif along the fuselage, which became the symbol of the end of the Phantom era in Japanese service. The two-seat twin-engine Phantom is one of the best-known fighters of the Cold War.
Glue the cockpit and the clear parts with cement for clear parts, so that they do not cloud over. The black commemorative scheme comes out best over a filler and an even coat of black paint; before the decals, go over it with gloss varnish so that the large motifs settle without silvering, and finally unify the surface with a semi-gloss. Pick out the panel lines with a discreet wash, so that the black area does not look flat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
