HäT 8206 Frontier Light Horse is a 1:72 set with mounted figures of colonial cavalry from the South African wars.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale from the range devoted to the colonial wars. It contains riders and horses in several poses, with most of the figures in the saddle and one kneeling and aiming a rifle, so both a deployed patrol and a dismounted group can be built. It is supplied unpainted and unassembled. The manufacturer does not state a consistent total number of pieces, so check it on the packaging.
The Frontier Light Horse was a volunteer mounted unit raised in southern Africa that served in the frontier fighting and in the campaign against the Zulus in 1879. It was not regular cavalry but mounted infantry: the riders moved in the saddle, then dismounted and fought on foot. In a vast and thinly settled landscape that was the only sensible solution, because infantry could not have covered the ground and a classic cavalry charge against a close formation made no sense. The equipment was plain and far from uniform, as tends to be the way with volunteer corps.
Seat the riders only once the horse is painted, otherwise you cannot reach between the leg and the flank. Do not mix the horses into a single color; various shades of brown and chestnut will enliven the group. Take the plain and mismatched equipment as an advantage: work with several muted shades and add unity only through the bases.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
