This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Zvezda captures the light 20 mm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun together with its two-man crew. The set belongs to a simplified range intended for a quick build and for tabletop games; the parts join by a snap-fit system, so the model can be assembled even without glue.
The Flugabwehrkanone 38 (Flak 38) became the standard light anti-aircraft gun of the German army from the end of the 1930s. It grew out of an earlier 2 cm type and sat on a small two-wheeled carriage that allowed all-round traverse and rapid fire. The gun served against low-flying targets and ground targets alike and was among the most widespread weapons in its category.
The parts are designed for easy assembly; even so, it is worth securing the joints with a drop of thin cement for plastic for strength. Apply a primer before painting, spray with an airbrush or use a good brush, and pick out the barrel and the seats with a dry brush and a fine wash. The crew figures bring a diorama scene to life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
