German tank hunters, Panzerjäger, Second World War (1:72) — MARS Model

A set of plastic historical figures in 1:72 scale from MARS Model. This is not one model but a set of soldiers in various poses to be glued and painted, intended for dioramas and wargaming. The set represents German tank hunters (Panzerjäger), the anti-tank infantry of the Second World War period. The figures are supplied as unpainted plastic on the sprue.

The real subject

The Panzerjäger (literally tank hunters) were the German anti-tank units of the Second World War. In the later phase of the war the infantry armed itself against tanks with hand-held anti-tank weapons — the Panzerfaust, the Panzerschreck rocket launcher and magnetic and pressure mines. The set captures soldiers in the poses typical of that fight — aiming a Panzerschreck, holding a Panzerfaust or laying a mine. It was a risky close-quarters fight in which the infantryman had to wait until the armored vehicle came within range.

Building and painting tips

Cut the figures carefully from the sprue and clean up the flash with a knife or a fine file. Glue the parts with a suitable adhesive (cement for plastic models on hard plastic, super glue on softer material). Apply a primer before painting. Paint with acrylic figure paints, divide the uniform and the weapons into individual areas, pick the detail out with a fine brush and deepen the shadows with a wash. The figures go superbly into a scene with 1:72 armor.
