An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) light tank in the Ausf. E/F version in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. It is a compact model in a smaller scale with a straightforward build, suitable both for a quicker project and for the vehicle park of a diorama. The E/F version represents the machines with thicker armor on the hull and the turret.
The Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) derives from a prewar Czechoslovak tank (the LT vz. 38). After the occupation of Czechoslovakia it was taken over by the German army and used in many campaigns. The Ausf. E/F versions received additional armor plates on the front and the sides of the hull and the turret and were used in the early phase of the fighting on the Eastern Front. Production of the tank ended in 1942, when its armament was no longer adequate, but the chassis went on to serve as the basis for the Hetzer and Marder III tank destroyers and other derived types.
In 1:72 scale the parts are small, so work with a sharp knife and a magnifier; paint the running gear and the road wheels before the hull is closed up. An airbrush suits German dark gray (the early phase) or the later camouflage; a fine patina comes from a light wash in the details and discreet dust pigments on the running gear, as too much mud would look coarse in this scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
