A set in 1:72 scale from the brand HäT. The package contains fifty-six parts from which you build four ancient catapults and twenty-four figures of crew. It is a kit: the frame of the engine, the torsion section and the base are all assembled from parts. The plastic is unpainted. The set adds siege and field equipment to the Greek and Macedonian infantry of the same range.
Greek torsion engines used the energy stored in skeins of twisted sinew or hair. The smaller types threw bolts and were deployed in the field as well, the larger ones stone balls against walls. The rise of this technology falls in the fourth century BC, when the engineers of Syracuse developed it and Philip and Alexander began to use it systematically in the siege of cities.
Line the parts up dry; the frame has to be at a right angle, or the engine will stand crooked. You will capture the wood with an ocher base and a brown glaze drawn along the grain, and leave the torsion skeins lighter and slightly yellowed. Darken the metal fittings. Arrange the crew around the engine according to the logic of the work, that is, drawing back, loading the missile and aiming. A base of packed earth with bolts scattered about will give the scene action.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
