An injection-molded plastic kit of the famous Allied Higgins LCVP landing craft in 1:72 scale from Airfix. It is a new tooling; the assembled model measures approximately 145 mm in length. According to the manufacturer, the package offers two color schemes, one for the Royal Navy and one for the US Navy in Normandy in 1944, so you can pick the Allied version to suit your collection.
The LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) was a small landing craft with a shallow draft and a wide folding bow ramp, usually built from plywood. It took roughly a platoon of soldiers, which it put ashore directly on the beach by lowering the ramp. The Higgins boats wrote themselves indelibly into history at the Normandy landings and were used in large numbers in the Pacific as well, among other places at Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Finish and paint the hull and the inner well of the craft before you close them up. Apply a primer before painting; an airbrush is ideal. The folding ramp can be fixed in the lowered position for a striking landing scene. The model looks superb on a diorama with a water surface, where salt-water weathering and the wear of the wooden structure will stand out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
