1:72 decals for the Japanese fighter Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien. Three machines of the 244th Sentai from the defense of Japanese cities, two of them flown by Major Teruhiko Kobayashi.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was the only series-built Japanese fighter with a liquid-cooled V engine, which made it strikingly different from the rest of Japanese production in the shape of its nose. The Allies designated it by the name Tony. In the last year of the war it took on the role of an interceptor against B-29 bombers over the home islands. The 1:72 sheet covers three such machines.
The 244th Sentai defended the Tokyo area and was among the most photographed Japanese formations, not least because it became a rewarding subject for the reporting of the day. Kobayashi led it at an exceptionally young age and his aircraft with the prominent band around the fuselage is one of the best-known Japanese fighters of all.
All three finishes on the sheet belong to the late form of the machine with cannon in the fuselage, so compare the shape of the gun cover on the parts of your kit before building. The color transition between bare metal and camouflage patches is typical of these aircraft, and a decal settles onto it best after a gloss coat. The late machines of this unit usually carried home defense recognition bands around the fuselage and on the leading edge; spray those first and only then lay the numbers and national insignia over them, otherwise an unwanted step will form at the edge. The package holds the sheet and drawings, not plastic parts.
