The set captures a gunner at a DShKM heavy machine gun. It is the modernized variant of the Soviet heavy machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber, which spread into the armament of many armies after the Second World War and appears to this day on the mounts of armored vehicles, on the beds of trucks and on fixed pedestals. The pairing of a figure and a weapon will therefore find a use across a wide range of subjects, from post-war equipment to contemporary conflicts.
According to the name it is a figure of a gunner together with a DShKM machine gun in 1:72 scale. The parts are made by direct 3D printing in resin, so they carry fine detail of the uniform, the boots and the weapon itself, which in this scale is hard to achieve any other way.
The parts are not polystyrene and ordinary modeling cement does not work on them. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and with epoxy on larger areas. With direct 3D printing there are print supports on the parts: cut them off with a sharp blade a little away from the surface and sand the remainder carefully, so that the detail is not damaged. Before painting, wash the figure in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry completely, or the paint will not hold on the print resin residue. A thin coat of primer works well, and only then the shades of the uniform.
The set suits modelers who want to bring a vehicle to life with a crew or to build a small diorama. A single figure at a weapon gives a scene scale and action.
