Injection-molded plastic kit of the supersonic fighter MiG-21F-13 in 1:72 scale by the long-established Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov (KP) of Prostejov. KP is a brand with a long history that today builds on modern short-run tooling. The kit accordingly features fine surface engraving, but by its nature it suits somewhat more experienced modelers – expect more careful cleanup and fitting of parts than with large mainstream brands. Fishbed E is the NATO reporting name for this early version.
The MiG-21F-13 was among the first series-production versions of the legendary Soviet MiG-21 — a single-seat, single-engine fighter with a characteristic delta wing and a nose-mounted circular air intake with a movable center cone. It entered service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s and was a typical light day interceptor of its era, capable of flight at higher supersonic speeds. The F-13 version carried short-range guided air-to-air missiles supplemented by gun armament. The MiG-21 became one of the most numerous jet fighters in history and served in dozens of countries; the early F-13 version was also license-built by the Czechoslovak firm Aero Vodochody.
For the plastic, use a thin liquid modeling cement applied with a brush, and test-fit the fuselage and wing joints dry beforehand. Apply a primer before painting to even out the surface and reveal any imperfections. The metal and aluminum tones of the early version come out best with an airbrush; finish the cockpit and landing gear bays before closing up the fuselage. After painting we recommend a gloss coat under the decals and a final matte or satin topcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
