An injection-molded plastic kit of the frontline fighter MiG-29 in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The box covers the form known internally as izdeliye 9.13, that is the version with the enlarged dorsal spine. The kit has over one hundred and forty parts, finely engraved panel lines, a well-worked cockpit and a canopy that can be fitted either open or closed. The decals cover two sets of markings, Russian and Ukrainian.
The MiG-29 was created as a lighter complement to the heavy Su-27 for the fight for air superiority over the battlefield. Its pair of engines was matched by very robust landing gear, which let the machine operate from less prepared surfaces as well. The version with the enlarged spine carries more fuel and further equipment in the fairing, so its silhouette is noticeably different from the early aircraft. After the breakup of the Soviet Union the type passed into the hands of many successor and export operators.
Finish the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you join the fuselage halves. It pays to paint the intake ducts from the inside before gluing at this scale. The typical gray-blue camouflage suits an airbrush and soft transitions between shades; apply the decals over a gloss intermediate coat and finish with a matte clear coat.
