The British dragoon regiments belonged to the heavy cavalry and wore a red coat and a crested helmet. Their reputation is a mixed one: they could charge with devastating force, as the charge at Waterloo showed when it scattered a French infantry column, but they were equally known for being unable to stop in time after a success and exposing themselves to a counterattack. It was a consequence of a large part of the officers coming from the hunting gentry, where cavalry zeal outweighed discipline. That is exactly why the British dragoons are a rewarding subject: they carry both the victory and its price.
Paint the horses before you seat the riders; afterwards a brush cannot reach between the leg and the flank. British red needs more coats over a light base, otherwise it stays muddy. Darken the helmet crest and lighten only the edge. Do not mix the horses into a single color and unify the bases with a single tone; that bonds the group into one whole.
