A photo-etched set in 1:72 scale for a model of the PBY-5A Catalina amphibious flying boat. Thin metal sheet replaces the detail that plastic cannot carry.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Catalina is an American flying boat that made its name on long patrol flights over the ocean and on rescuing the crews of downed aircraft. It carries a high-set wing on a pylon above the fuselage, a pair of radial engines and bulged observation blisters on the sides of the rear fuselage with a good view in all directions. The PBY-5A version is amphibious: the boat hull gained a retractable wheeled landing gear, so the machine could take off from water and from a hard runway alike.
These are photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale made from thin metal sheet. In this scale the difference between a plastic and a metal part is especially noticeable, because plastic cannot be molded thin enough for a small feature to look right on the model. The list of parts and their placement is given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Have fine-tipped tweezers and a light-colored mat ready, on which a small part will not get lost. Separate the parts with a sharp blade and sand the remaining tab. Make the bends along the etched score lines; with the smallest parts it helps to hold the sheet down with a blade and bend it with a second pair of tweezers. Glue with super glue applied on a pin, so that the excess does not run onto the surrounding surface. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a primer coat.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
