HäT 8040 Italian allies of the Punic wars is a 1:72 set with forty-eight figures in eight poses.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with forty-eight figures in eight poses. It depicts the infantry of the Italian allies, who made up a large part of the armies of the Punic wars. What is interesting is that the figures can be used on both sides of the conflict, because after Hannibal's victories a number of Italian communities went over to the Carthaginian side. It is supplied unpainted.
Rome did not fight alone. Its strength rested on a system of treaties with the Italian communities, which were obliged to supply troops; allied foot soldiers made up roughly half of a field army and were placed on the wings of the legions. The equipment and the way of fighting were close to the Roman, because the allies trained on the same pattern, but the communities kept command in their own hands. Hannibal's strategy rested precisely on trying to break this system, and after the battle of Cannae he partly succeeded.
Because the allied detachments were not uniformly equipped, it pays to work with several shades of tunic and not turn the set into a single uniform. Paint the shields separately, device and all, while you still have them loose in your hand; it is the shield pattern that tells one community from another. Darken the metal parts and lighten only the edges.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
