The 1:72 metal 85 mm D-5S barrel for the SU-85 tank destroyer is a precisely turned metal replacement for the plastic barrel from Aber. It is not a model but a refining accessory.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal barrel from Aber in 1:72 scale, intended as a replacement for the plastic barrel on models of the Soviet SU-85 tank destroyer. This is not a vehicle kit but an accurate refining accessory. The machined barrel has a faithful profile and a clean muzzle, which makes the gun look markedly more realistic than a split plastic part.
The SU-85 was a Soviet tank destroyer built on the T-34 chassis. Its 85mm D-5S gun appeared in 1943 as an answer to more heavily armored German vehicles and gave the Red Army a weapon able to hit the enemy at longer range. The vehicle served until the more heavily armed SU-100 supplemented it.
Cut off the plastic barrel and clean up the seat, then set the metal part in place and glue it with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Degrease the brass before painting and go over it with a primer. A metal barrel stays perfectly straight and is in no danger of bowing.
This is a refining accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
