S-25-O-PU — 3D-printed heavy unguided rockets from Quinta Studio, 1:72 scale

The real subject

The S-25 is a heavy unguided rocket of large caliber (of the order of 340 mm) in a single-use launch tube (the PU designation), meant against ground targets. The large warhead and the range make it possible to hit a target from a greater distance. The O version carries a fragmentation warhead effective against area and softer targets. That is what sets it apart from the S-25-OFM variant, which has a different, high-explosive fragmentation warhead for harder targets; both versions exist, and if you need the other pattern, choose that one. Unlike a small air-to-air guided missile (the R-60) or a pod holding a number of small rockets (the UB-32), this is one large unguided rocket.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts free of mold release agent and cut them carefully off the casting blocks. They are glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate, CA) — plastic cement does not hold on resin. Sand with respiratory protection. Apply a primer and paint with an airbrush; the large tube comes out well after fine highlighting of the edges and light weathering based on period photographs.
