An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz.8 heavy half-track tractor in its armored configuration, in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the rare armored version of this twelve-ton tractor, in which the cab and the engine bay were protected by sheet armor. It is a smaller desktop model, yet with a faithfully rendered chassis, tracked running gear and a towed artillery limber. The Sd.Kfz.8 was among the largest German half-track tractors of the Second World War. It was designed to tow heavy loads of around twelve tons, above all heavy guns including the feared 8.8 cm FlaK. The armored variant was meant to protect the crew and the engine when used closer to the front line. Surviving evidence of this configuration is scarce, which makes the model an unusual and interesting subject for collectors of German equipment.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with thin modeling cement for plastic. On military equipment, assemble and paint the tracked running gear before you finish the hull, where the lower areas are harder to reach once glued. Apply a primer, cover with an airbrush and bring the surfaces to life with a wash in the recesses. Create mud and dust effects with pigments on the running gear and the chassis so that the model looks convincing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
