A turned metal barrel of the Soviet 45 mm tank gun, designated 20-K, in 1:72 scale. It is intended for models of the BT-5, BT-7 and BA-5 vehicles.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 45 mm gun with the designation 20-K was the standard armament of Soviet light tanks and armored cars in the 1930s. It was carried by the fast wheel-cum-track vehicles of the BT family and by the BA-5 armored car, that is, the machines that made up the backbone of the Soviet armored units in the prewar period. The weapon could fire both armor-piercing and fragmentation ammunition, so a vehicle carrying it handled both the fight against armored targets and the support of infantry. On a model the barrel is the most conspicuous element of the turret, and at first glance you can tell whether it is symmetrical and straight.
This is a barrel turned from metal that replaces the plastic part from a kit. Metal has an exactly round cross-section along its whole length, keeps a straight axis and has a clean, open muzzle, which on a plastic part has to be laboriously drilled out. A metal barrel also does not bow and stands up to handling a finished model.
Cut the plastic barrel off with a saw as close to the turret as possible and level the surface. Drill the hole for the pin of the new barrel slowly and on the axis, ideally with a bit held in a pin vise, so that the hole does not run off to one side. Try the fit dry first and check whether the barrel points straight seen from above and from the side. Only then secure it with super glue. Degrease the metal before painting and lay a primer on it, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
The vehicle model, the paints and the glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
