Plastic kit of the Soviet self-propelled gun SU-122 in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. The model is designed as snap-fit: the parts fit into each other and the basic assembly can be managed even without glue, although we recommend glue for strength and a clean result. Despite the smaller scale and the simple build the model has decent detail.
The SU-122 was a Soviet medium self-propelled gun built on the chassis of the T-34 tank and armed with a 122mm howitzer derived from the M-30 field gun. It was created as a cheap and quickly available support gun: the heavy howitzer in a casemate superstructure destroyed fortifications and infantry, but was not ideal against tanks. Production ran from the beginning of 1943 until roughly the middle of 1944, when the SU-122 was replaced by the more effective SU-85. More than a thousand were built in all.
Check the snap-fit parts dry; the joints can be strengthened with spots of glue to be safe. Finish the running gear and the lower hull first, then fit the casemate superstructure. Use a primer and an airbrush; build the Soviet green up in layers. In a small scale fine weathering shows well: a dark wash in the recesses, drybrushing on the edges and dust pigments on the running gear. The model also suits quick collections and wargaming.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
