An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale capturing one of the latest and most capable versions of the legendary British fighter Supermarine Spitfire. The F Mk.21 form belongs among the Griffon-powered Spitfires, and this particular release is the variant with contra-rotating propellers. The box contains clear canopy parts and decals for several marking options.
The Spitfire F Mk.21 represented the final development line of the Spitfire with the powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. Compared with the early Spitfires it received a redesigned, stronger wing and a series of structural changes, so that it differed markedly from the original type. The version with contra-rotating propellers dealt with the strong torque of the mighty engine: a pair of propellers turning against each other canceled the reaction forces, improving handling on takeoff and the use of the available power. It was an advanced, experimentally tuned form at the very peak of piston Spitfire development, which appeared only at the very end of and after the Second World War.
Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and sand the fuselage and wing seams carefully. Give increased attention to the assembly of the contra-rotating propellers, so that both rows of blades sit on the same axis. Mask the canopy glazing with templates. Apply a primer before painting; postwar British camouflage or a silver finish comes out well with an airbrush over a smooth gloss surface, and the decals should be applied over a gloss clear coat and sealed with a clear coat.
