Decals in 1:72 for Mk.IX Spitfires of the first Arab-Israeli War, three Israeli machines and one Egyptian.
Responsibility details are not available.
This sheet has nothing to do with the skies of Europe but with the fighting over the birth of Israel. Three options belong to a fighter squadron of the Israeli Air Force and carry markings from 1949, while the fourth goes to the machine numbered 664 with the letter L, which a year earlier had flown in the colors of the Royal Egyptian Air Force. Over the Negev, aircraft of the same type thus met each other in combat.
The young state sought combat aircraft wherever it could, and part of the deliveries reached Palestine from Czechoslovakia. After the not very popular Avia, the first fighter squadron received Spitfires, which in their ninth version proved a reliable and fast weapon. The Israeli machines on the sheet carry the white numbers twenty-six and fourteen and one black number ten.
The Mk.IX came about as a quick answer to the German Fw 190. The airframe of the older version took a two-stage supercharged engine, which gave the aircraft back its performance at high altitude; it can be told apart by the longer nose and the second exhaust stack. In the Middle East these machines went on serving for years after the end of the world war.
The delivery covers only the sheet of markings. Plastic parts, glue and paints do not belong to it.
